Hard to believe that Old Forge is only about 60 miles west of Gore, but they get 75 more inches of snow every year. I wish the lake effect band could push a little further inland!
Matty...I've certainly thought about that a lot. I do think that if Gore, or a mountain with terrain and vertical comparable to Gore...was in the lake effect zone...the entire character of the Adirondacks would be different. In that case I think Gore would be like Killington. I may be cynical but I think one reason the Adks are so well preserved is because there was no obvious way to make a lot of money in the park.
