Each works a little differently, and we thought it would be a good idea to explain the details about how they work. If you have questions that aren't answered below, post them in the Forums Issues and Questions thread in the NY Ski Blog Guide.
Harvey Road: NY Ski Blog
Harvey Road is the blog. As new stories are posted on the homepage, earlier posts move down the page. There are five posts on the home page at one time, and older posts can be accessed by using the Archives in the left-hand side bar, or by clicking on the "Older Posts" link at the bottom of the home page.
"How do I comment on the blog?"
You can comment on the blog in a few different ways. Start by going to the bottom of the post you want to comment on and find the white comment box:
At the bottom of the comment box you'll see a dropdown menu next to the words "Comment as:" as shown above. When you click on that dropdown, you have the choice to login with a variety of account choices: Google Account, Live Journal, WordPress, TypeAd, AIM or OpenID. If you have any of those types of accounts, chose it and login.
The simplest option for commenting is the Name/URL option. Choose Name/URL from the dropdown and enter your name or screenname. If you don't have your own website, or you don't want to enter it, just enter your name. You can leave the URL field blank. Press "continue" and then enter your comment. If you want to look at your comment before posting you can choose "preview" or you can just post it.
We'd really prefer that you don't use the Anonymous choice. There really is no reason to use it. If you want to remain anonymous you choose can enter "Felix the Cat" with the Name/URL option. We just ask that you pick a name and be consistent. If 5 different people post in a thread as "anonymous" it's very hard to determine who has said what.

The NY Ski Forums
The NY Ski Forums are intended to be a place that allows everyone involved with Harvey Road to share ideas, in a format that is more conducive to conversational exchange than The Blog's commenting feature. It's a place to talk about skiing, post pictures, share excitement or discuss anything that relates to the mountains or skiing.
Forum Registration
The Forums require a registration to post. All you need to register is an email address, a screen name and a minute. If you don't see a registration confirmation email right away - look in your spam filter.
Avatars
We really appreciate it when forum members take the time to upload an avatar. It gives the Forum a sense that it's a place people care about. Plus it's a chance to express your personality. And it's easy to do:
Log in. There is a dropdown menu under your screenname in the upper right corner of the big yellow area.
Choose:
PERSONAL SETTINGS - CHANGE AVATAR - BROWSE - UPLOAD - CROP
That's all there is to it.
Forum Rules/Policies
A complete list of Forum Rules are posted in the Forum. But they all boil down to one thing: respect. Forum members should treat others with respect. Posts that violate this rule will be deleted. Posters that break this rule will be removed. We reserve the right to amend rules/policies.
Other Forum Questions:
- How do I upload an image?
- How do I go to the last post in a thread?
- What are Post View Options?
- How do I get a link to a forum thread?
- How do I post a video in the Forums?
NY Ski Magazine
NY Ski Magazine is an online periodical focusing on off-the-beaten-path ski destinations that don’t get the big headlines (or the big crowds). Edited by James Michaud, the Magazine is a great resource for planning trips to mountains you either weren't aware of or hesitant to visit due to a lack of information. There are also several features about "lost" northeastern ski areas, i.e. no longer in operation.
