Wild temperature inversion 0 at the base, 37 at top of lookout around 9 AM

Whiteface exceeded expectations today… was about to pull the plug after looking out the window this morning, but I have friends up here who are not whiteface regulars and up here for the holiday week and they decided to go so we figured we’d at least check it out. Aside from the super sketchy road conditions, turned out to be actually pretty good skiing aside from a little bit of skiing in the rain. It was soft snow and then it started snowing in the afternoon, which made things at least feel correct… early this morning looking out the window at the house was pretty depressing but things have turned around a little bit… Hoping for a little more snow throughout the week… I’m imagining surface conditions are gonna lock up a bit starting tomorrow… I guess snowmaking should be cranking with these temperatures…

3 inches of fresh to start the day. Firm and fast as things get skied off. Wilmington shut down temporarily for grooming? I didn't know that was a thing. Lots of snowmaking happening on summit trails. Lots of whales that have turned to ice off summit lift. Lookout Below getting wind scraped. Always a good day here though.

I am sure 90% of Whiteface skiers would not care... But, my family is a fan of the Bear Den area. Nice lodge, variety of trails, separate parking. Besides the conveyors you have Falcon Flyer and The Notch lifts so it really does meet the needs of some of us. Being able to see it... and the lack of crowds is a plus! Longer drive for me than Gore, but sometimes it is welcome change. Plus I can brag I ski at Whiteface!
