    Royal Mountain Conditions

For today, the cover was still great, with almost no brown peeking through yet (just a small spot on the top of the rock on the Challenge headwall, and the big rock on the skier's right edge near the top on Royal). All the main trails were open and groomed. The plan was to skip grooming on...

NY Ski Area Closing Dates 2023

As posted in the Royal Conditions thread, Royal has announced that Monday 4/10 will be closing day.

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Jake's announced the plan from here on. Open tomorrow and Saturday, closing Sunday for Easter, then open for one more day on Monday with all main trails expected to be open. I'll be there all three days manning the ski school desk, but since we don't anticipate a whole lot of lessons I should...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Don't let a weather forecast change your plans too much, even just a few days in advance. The forecast even 24 hours ahead looked like it would be pretty rainy today, but the radar looked pretty clear this morning, so I decided to head up to Gore with my daughter who had the day off from...

Where are you skiing this week?

I am watching the weather for Thursday. I'd like to go wherever I can within a few hours of home that I will have some terrain available and I won't get too wet. Gore's an option of course but maybe WF makes sense or maybe it's my chance to try to get in a day at MRG... Then Royal Friday and...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

I arrived at 1 today in time to watch the first-ever Royal Mountain pond skim, which was a lot of fun. About 90 entrants, most tried the skim across the 60-foot pond, others chose the jump. My personal favorite was the last entrant who went backwards down the hill and all the way across the...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Back to a post about an actual ski outing. I waited out the rain and went up for some runs after lunch. The snowpack has held up nicely so far. The woods are almost done, but the snow is deep on the snowmaking trails. Really soft, of course, with the strong spring sun and temps around 60...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

OK, another operating schedule update: with a break likely in the rain, Royal had decided to be open 10-4 on Saturday, 4/1. I'll make my decision on whether to head up or not after I see if it looks like this break in the rain will materialize.

Yes, with a chance of a couple days the school break week that follows Easter.

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Royal has already made the call to stay closed on Saturday due to the expected weather. Should be back open Sunday, including a pond skim event that was announced today. As I understand, the plan is to be open April 8, closed Easter Sunday. Unclear if we'll make it past that.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Reports from others are accurate - it was a great day today at Gore. Definitely my best day of the season outside of Utah. It was the most runs, and most vertical for any day for me in at least a few years. I rode the gondola only twice, but every other open lift at least three times (except...

Where are you skiing this week?

Finally planning on my first Gore day of the season tomorrow. Hoping the sun softens things up enough to get off the groomed terrain.

I've finally put my pictures into the writeup linked above. Pictures are on individual pages linked from the main narrative page.

    Royal Mountain Conditions

It was a pleasant start on a groomed granular surface, with all the main trails skiing nicely. The ski report showed 100% open, and everything was skiable though not fun in my opinion off the groomers. Snow started and the wind picked up a lot by 11:30 which freshened up the surfaces a bit...

    Catamount Conditions

I used my second Catamount Indy day today for a nice day of spring skiing. Things were still firm except where the sun was direct when I got on the snow after 10. The skies were clear all day, with temps starting just above freezing and probably getting just over 50 by early afternoon...

    The Indy Pass

I've been very happy with my first Indy Pass this season (used my 11th redemption today), and already renewed for next season.

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Just a quick report from a too-short visit yesterday. The snow from the storm (reported at 14" I believe) was skied a lot on Saturday then it was much colder on Sunday. I thought the groomers would be good and the woods would be too much with frozen-up ruts. But...some persistent and...

    Titus Conditions

I used my two Indy days at Titus, second half of yesterday, first half of today. I had some light drizzle and light snow on Monday afternoon, which made the snow slow (which is not a good thing at Titus given the amount of low angle terrain). Still, I found some good runs and enjoyed my...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

I spent my whole morning on the practice slope in lessons, but then had the chance to make 5 great runs from the top in the middle of the day. The trails were all groomed before the 2-3" of fresh snow fell. I did Challenge, the Princess-Maiden-Damsel Glades combo, then Duchess most of the way...
