    Silverton in Covid, Feb 2021

Towing in winter, even a properly prepared 4 season trailer can be an adventure. When we left the Finger Lakes, the temps were in the upper 40s and sunny, but as we went south and west it got colder with every stop. First couple of days in Natural Bridge, VA saw temps down to 20 and light snow...

    Silverton in Covid, Feb 2021

Earlier this year in February, my wife and I loaded up our newish 18 foot travel trailer and brand new pickup and took off to the south and west. I had planned a trip which satisfied her desire for some sun and warmth and my desire for adventure. I tossed in the ski equipment sort of as a last...

    Greek Peak Conditions

Math yeah, but the math is based on original and optimistic specifications, which I doubt have ever been verified. The same is probably true for all the resorts listed at that site. Nevertheless, Greek is a special case, those who work the hill, we know the lifts. The numbers are optimistic...

    Greek Peak Conditions

The number of lifts is correct. No idea about how they know the number of people loaded per hour. I'd guess its optimistic. I glanced at the list of resorts in NY... Many that have been closed for a long time, are listed as temporarily closed... like Scotch Mountain... and Schu-maker are listed...

Personally I am looking forward to exploring the vertical again this year!

I like Timberline and Caanan Valley as well. BUT together they don't have the terrain variety or consistent snowfall and snowmaking that Snowshoe has. I skied all these places, as well as anything that was within 5 hours of DC: Liberty, Whitetail, Round Top, Masanutten, Bryce, 7 Springs...

    The Vertical Drop Thread

I've skied Snowshoe quite a bit and got to step up to defend what they've got. While 70% of the mountain's ski-able acres are 850 feet or less of vertical, Snowshoe's "backside" 1500 foot trails are over 30% of the large resort's ski-able acres. The fact that there is so much terrain back there...

    The Vertical Drop Thread

The True-up numbers have Greek Peak at 950. Those of us who work there know its no 950. Only if you include the planned extension of Greek Peak East to chair 4 that never happened. Coincidentally their trail map includes that never developed expansion at the top of chair 4 and Greek Peak East.

I apologize in advance... rant mode has been triggered.. What color coat was the maskless coach wearing? Blue=Ski Instructor=Employee. Not blue, that person was probably a ski racer volunteer or school coach who hadn't got the message (yet). Employees are empowered to ask folks to mask up and...

At one point I lived closer to Song and skied there a lot. It was a nice place when I was a kid. Haven't been there in 10 or 15 years.....

Top 3 Best Lifts in NYS?

Another vote for Chair 2 at Greek. Especially for the years after I turned 14...1976. It was a 15 minute ride from the very bottom to the top, and most of it wasn't lit very well, and the rest of it was not lit at all. Good times. More seriously, I still enjoy the terrain under and off...

    Greek Peak Conditions

That's a GD good question. Because when I just went the normal site where people buy tickets in advance, I get a message that none are available. This is what I got from the Chat session I tried: ---------------------------- Good day ! My name is Brittany, I'll be happy to assist you today. How...

If you are driving southbound out of Syracuse around Tully and Lafayette, and see a ski area on the right, it is Song Mountain you are looking at.

You can make reservations right up until you go skiing. Of course you risk being shut out on a busy weekend day. But you should be able to make last minute reservations.

    Greek Peak Conditions

I skied Greek Saturday for a few hours after lunch. They were open for the day until 4:00. What they had open was pretty nice given what they've had for weather this season. Open was Alpha, Stoic, Meadows, skiers' left side of Elysian Fields, Karyatis, and Platonic. Chairs 1, Visions Quad, and...
