ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

It seems suspiciously way too cheap, but I pulled the trigger on a winter wheel + tire package for the Y: https://t1motorsports.ca/products/tesla-model-y-18-winter-package?variant=47193946980577 Going from 19s to 18s should make the ride a little softer and possibly add a bit of range. I...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

It really depends on the car and how aerodynamic it is. While cool looking, Rivians have a drag coefficient of .32 while a Model Y has a .22 coefficient. A Lucid Air is under .2 I haven't directly measured it but I usually drive ~ 75 on the highway and I don't lose that my range in Y

    Living in the Mountains

It will be interesting to see what happens to NC once the new Ski Bowl build out is complete. A gondola between the town and the lifts would bring something special that only exists out West or in Europe.

    Living in the Mountains

So much hand wringing about places like Jackson / Bozeman / Boise etc, but it's not like there aren't vast endless swaths of affordable rural America. If anything I would think destination cities that bring in money, jobs, and healthcare would help the wider regions without much affordability...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I rode in a BYD in Mexico, but it was definitely a cheapo taxi model. Reminded me of one of those purpose built Nissan Taxis in the city, but all electric

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I read this article as well. I don't think they factored in off peak charging rates which would decrease the cost of home charging further, and they definitely didn't include the cost of accumulated maintenance on an ICE car. That being said driving a Hummer EV will probably cost you a lot...

    Yes You Need Snow Tires

My admittedly limited understanding is that the Blizzaks are great if you are always driving on snow and ice, but there are other more well rounded winter tire options. Remounting tires twice a year seems like a nightmare IMHO. Just swapping the wheels is enough of a PITA.

    Yes You Need Snow Tires

We drove both my Alltrack with winter tires and my Y with whatever the stock all seasons they come with up to the Cats last winter, and I could absolutely tell the difference, especially in braking. That being said the Y does weigh 1000 pounds more which gives it more inertia, but also more...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

If I had lived in a rural-ish area of upstate NY when I bought my Alltrack 7 years ago I would have considered the manual. But living in Brooklyn and now dense NJ, it just seems like more of a pain then it's worth. The manual ones command a decent resale value though.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I've never driven them, but on paper the Equinox and Blazer are the first US EVs that actually hold up on a true apples to apples comparison with the Model Y. No FSD though. I love 1 pedal driving. Once you get used to it it's hard going back.

    So it begins

I'm going with a PointGuard string inverter. I think the industry is moving away from micros. Many points of failure that all involve someone getting up on the roof, and you are tied to a specific generation of software and hardware. Imagine having to source something running on Windows 95...
