ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

The only real "problem" with EV's right now is the battery (cost, materials, and range). Much R&D is going into this world wide right now. Better and cheaper batteries will eventually become available. Other than that, the cost of manufacturing an EV is much less than an ICE. No engine and all...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Because the people promoting it don't have the same amount money to "contribute" to our Congress Men and Senators as the oil, airlines, and car companies do. When I go to Europe I don't even want a car. (Except may on the Autobahn on Sundays. 😉 )

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Terminal to terminal trucks like UPS and FedEx will be fueled at the terminals. I'd imagine over the road long haul trucks would have contracts with truck stop companies like Pilot and Love's to fuel the trucks. Whether that be electric charging, diesel, or hydrogen.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I agree. The Teamsters will not like self driving trucks. I think people will be screwing with them the way they do with the driverless taxis out in California. Cones Imobilize Driverless Cars

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

That's not what was said. He said, “If you’re driving a truck today, my expectation is you’re going to be able to retire driving a truck.” That doesn't mean that they'll be driving the same kind of truck or for the same company. My thinking is that the over-the-road and terminal to terminal...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

The government and car makers pushed EV's because the electric infrastructure is there for charging. The long term solution is hydrogen fuel cells. It will start with the trucking industry as they can have their own hydrogen fueling stations at their terminals. Cars will follow once the...

I hope he gave the guy that came up with the idea a nice bonus!

    Building a House with Wood

I've heard glassfibre reinforced concrete helps to keep concrete from cracking. Not sure if that is true or not and don't know about the extra cost.

Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

I guess I'm a little surprised at Warp daddy, being a former educator, pooh poohing it so much. Maybe some kid who saw it will be inspired to be the next Carl Sagan, or Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I've read more than a few stories of the traffic nightmares for people who drove home Monday...

Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

Like you; I hate crowds. I planned to avoid them. Had a great weekend. Drove up Saturday. No traffic. Hung with my buddy and his wife Saturday night. Went to dinner and a concert in Saratoga Springs Sunday night. Picked a spot to watch the eclipse that avoided getting on the Northway or major...

Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

TonyC is definitely right. If you're not in totality you don't know what you're missing. I had planned to see the eclipse since last year. Saw one on TV when I was a kid and always wanted to witness one. Drove to Long Lake from Schroon Lake. Got a great parking spot and a great spot on the lake...

Where are you skiing this week?

Thinking of Greek Peak Friday but the webcams are not looking too good. Any locals have any input to what conditions might be like for Friday even if they do open?

Not sure yet. Staying in Schroon Lake then driving north, northwest towards the center of totality but staying off the Northway.

Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

That's why I'm going back Tuesday. I think that a lot of people are going to drive north for the day. Watch the eclipse for 3 or less minutes. Then get in their car and drive home. The southbound thruway will be a mess after the eclipse.

    Skiing In The Poconos

Rumor was that the mob was trying to get legalized gambling in the Poconos like they did in Atlantic City back then.

    Skiing In The Poconos

Mount Airy Lodge is now Mount Airy Casino. It appears that all the old buildings were torn down to build the casino. I don't think any of the trails were steep enough to ski powder like in the 1987 commercial. The skiing was on the golf course. They claimed 250' vertical but was likely closer to...

    Middlebury Snow Bowl Conditions

Both Middlebury and Dartmouth are always uncrowded. Even if the parking lots are full, short liftlines and uncrowded slopes. Great places to be on a holiday weekend and lift tickets are reasonable. If you're on the IndyPass, no blackouts. Middlebury is an affiliate but 50% off weekdays and 25%...
