Finally after pouring resources into the WUG at the expense of the rest of the mountain, Gore got the Burnt Ridge pod open last week, including the long and greatly hyped Backwoods trail. So today Burnt Ridge chair isn’t running, and tomorrow’s snow report, just posted, says it’s closed again...

They likely need a date for bookkeeping. Adult tickets cost more than junior and senior, accounting probably need to know the value of the ticket they are comping.

There are fewer teams and athletes at North America WCs than those in Europe, especially from the smaller/less affluent teams. It’s a cost-benefit analysis - is it worth the expense, jet lag, etc. to come here to keep your rivals from scooping up a lot of WC points uncontested.

After the 1980 Olympics, Lake Placid’s venues met WC standard for a decade or so after, and it hosted many WCs in alpine, nordic, biathlon, bobsled. By the 2000s they no longer could. After the upgrades they can again bid for WCs. Honestly, a WC may draw more Euros to take a vacation in the US...

I borrowed my son’s password and am watching the snowboard cross semis and finals from Gore that happened yesterday. The...

It looks like you could walk around the fence steering skiers from Jamboree and Sunway to the base area and get up to the fence around the runout area past the finish line/timing shed. Other than that all surrounding terrain is closed. You might be lucky...

    Transparency in Snow Reporting

I’m not comparing snowmaking, as MRG basically has none. I’m comparing the honesty in the descriptions of what is on the mountain.

A few hours of rain and not going anywhere close to freezing tonight. I’d take the snow report with a large dose of salts. Rest assured that there will be plenty of snow on Wild Air and Arena.

    Transparency in Snow Reporting

The most brutally honest snow report I’ve ever read, for yesterday from Mad River Glen: “Following the best week of holiday skiing in recent memory we’re sad to report that this stretch of packed powder is coming to an end. Yesterday we arose to cloudy skies which quickly gave way to the sun...

With a limited number of patrollers to close and sweep many trails, ropes may go up earlier. Also, the last skiers under the rope need time to ski down to the lift and ride it out of that pod before the lift closes.
