Random NYSkiBlog Stuff That You Might Not Care About

Late reply but the only ads that really 'scare' me are the TEMU ads. Possibly a total paranoid myth but I have always considered them the pandora's box I never wanted to open for fear of getting deluged with ads and spam forever!

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I was pleased to see Bear Cub Quad running today. I saw a good number of Lesson groups getting some fine instruction. They were getting their $$ worth! I was jealous! My first runs of the year also were on Bear Cub and were not very stellar... at least at the top of the trail. Eventually from...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

At 8PM from the base lodge camera there was a ton of snow being made near the Sunway Chair and Bear Cub. I would suppose this is for weekend lower mountain skiers and the money to be made from beginners and lessons? Unfortunately I am a weekday lower mountain skier. Fingers crossed they might...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

In my somewhat 'hopeful' mind.... doesn't the next 7 days look very good for snow making? Anyone who was there today (Friday) care to report if they saw snow making? Again, in my hopeful mind wouldn't blowing snow on Lower Sunway allow them to build that all important base and open more of the...

Ripitz.... thank you for your suggestion. Yes, it was likely misplaced. I will not waste anyone's time in the future. Lesson learned.

While we wait for that first dump of real snow.... Post removed.....

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Oh wait a minute... I am directionally challenged. Do we want load from the left or load from the right? You would think with all the huge advances in technology some genius nerd would have come up with a Star Trek "beam me up" transporter for skiers. Forget sending tourists to outer space...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Geez... Sorry about the false alarm. Old cabins on. old cabins off, old cabins back on. I think that is progress? Sure hope they didn't order load from the left cabins?

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Any chance the manufacturer only allows initial installation by their own crews? I would think they could be particular when it comes to liability? Didn't something like that happen last year with the gondola lift gear repair?

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I realize I am an impatient person... But I sure was hoping to see a few of the new Gondolas on site? Or better yet, being installed... Each time I go to the base lodge camera I see zero work going on? Nice 60 degree day would seem a good day to start installing.... Plus I assume there will be...

    Whiteface Conditions

I was out of skiing for 20+ years. Kids went off to college and then on to careers. Left poor dad with no one to ski with... plus skiing day tickets got expensive, equipment needed upgrading. Gone were the Mobil 3 deals where 3 fill ups got you a reduced price day of skiing at local mountains...

    Whiteface Conditions

I am pretty sure the open or closed gate will make my decision for me. I might call on the way up as well. Only one Whiteface web cam operating today so that gave me little help. Gore web cams looked like a ghost town. But I do think the old gondolas had been pulled. BTW the 2nd base area (Bear...

    Whiteface Conditions

Thank you. Kind of what I expected. They have more important work to do than watching me so I don't get in the way.

    Whiteface Conditions

I am visiting Lake Placid and Saranac Lake mid week. I have never visited the facility at Whiteface. I realize it will not be open for activities, or shopping, or food. But will it be possible to drive into the facility? Just to do a drive thru? I normally venture no further north than Gore BUT...

    Too Early to Tune?

Dropped them off yesterday at Sports Page. Now I just have to hope Look Xpress 10 bindings are still okay to be serviced. Like in ALL sports, you begin to wonder... would newer equipment be worth the investment. At age 75 I just smile... and doubt it. Be happy with what I have.

    Too Early to Tune?

I do not expect my season to start until the 2nd week of December. Is 2 months out, too early to get a wax, sharpen, and binding test? Feels a bit early but .....

    Not a Boot Backpack person...

I learned a lot in my return to skiing last year. For example I had forgotten how much effort it takes to get your equipment to the lodge. Bought one of the popular boot backpacks. Liked it BUT struggled getting in and out of the straps all season long. I frequently ski alone, so no buddy or...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Thank you for the season of photos.... These end of season photos make me want to up my game for next year. As a lower mountain trail skier at age 75 I now realize I shorten my season by not going up mountain. My Season Pass is already bought and used twice. See you in 2024-25.

    West Mountain Conditions

They do a great job making snow plus they have lights so both help out a lot. My criticism comes from the 'shrinking' of the mountain. The left side of the face area is set up for racing a lot of the time. Add a terrain park to the right and you take away a lot of the mountain. The lodge is...
