At the pinnacle of an early December snowstorm that would leave behind 70 inches of stellar dendrites, I was skiing my home runs solo in a full on blizzard. As I regained the ridge after my third lap, the storm began to break. The sun was shining, yet feathery crystals filled the ice cold air. The snow, so deep and cold and light, so undisturbed and unsettled, blanketed the landscape as if the clouds just fell out of the sky. Each bottomless turn ejected millions of snowflakes back into air from which they came, billowing around my shoulders like a smoke stack. This bottomless, weightless glide is what I dream about.
