ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

What year and model?
Do I get a commission or a sammich?

I think The Nation gets different rools on their sales.
Appears there’s a 22Y 42K miles 27.4 cash for starters.
Could be a bait and switch, who knows? I don’t know.
I do know their golf courses are sweet.
If yer curious ya can hunt.

Someone like you would make out like a bandit with one of those.

I already have had an electric car.

Most folks I talk with that have Teslas say they like their Teslas.
I like Subarus and might be too old to learn me a new operating system.

The folks I had breakfast with yesterday were talking about going to hit balls at Turning Stone sometime. If we go there to hit balls, I might ask for a self-drive test for the fun of it if possible.

@DomB how much of a hit do you take with the rack on the roof? With and without skis?

Also how do you keep them clean up there?

Public service announcement: The clifton park tesla charger is awesome. Now the answer - I took a beating, but I am not sure how much was the wind, and how much was the drag from the skis. A 22% reduction from what I normally see on a similar trip, though the wind was much worse than what I have driven in, so I can't say similar conditions -- 280 miles per fill up vs. 220 here.
I don't worry about keeping my skis clean - only the bottoms. Topsheet can protect the rest. Maybe it would be bad with a sleet storm, but I will have a cargo of 6 ppl on the way back, so no choice other than throwing some skis up top. Yes, my normal winter range is 280 miles, and this trip (wind and skis on top only real change), saw a pretty massive drop. In the summer, I'll get 285-320 for a charge.

Detail:

It was bad! Normally, I can get to Saratoga (200 miles away) on conserve with stated 80 miles left in winter - pretty dang good since my epa is 270.

For this trip, it was 35 mph winds, cold (0-21 F), and skis on top, I probably would have limped into a charger 220 miles from my house (Queensbury - 221 miles).

Luckily, there is a sweet 24 stall Tesla in clifton park - Within 30 seconds the Rivian was pulling 197 kw, and it held a higher charge rate to 80% than it does at Rivian chargers (maybe 80 kw at 80% charged) - That is about 30 minutes before Queensbury, so we ate lunch at 12:15 instead of 12:50. Before everyone was finished, I grabbed the car (it was so cold and a 5 min walk) and grabbed our crew. We were on the road for about 3 hours, less than the usual 4 hours or so in where I would normally stop.

For any flatlanders, the 24 stall Clifton Park Tesla charger is pretty awesome. 15% more price wise than the queensbury rivian charger (55 c kw vs. 47ish). Buffalo wild wings, coffee, mediterrean place, and, the kid-demanded chick filet. I did a hard 7 mile interval run (2 x 2 miles half marathon pace minus 15 seconds, 3 min jog between) so I may have eaten 30 grilled chicken chick filet nuggets - will not confirm nor deny. Idk much about what gen tesla chargers are on, but my guess this one is very new.

Pulling 140kw from the Chestertown Tesla charger with the Rivian provides adapter for a quick top off.

You could not make it down to Queensbury? I found a fast charger today that was 38 cent.

Could have but it was a logistics issue - we are sleeping in North Creek, and I have been getting crushed by having the skis up top - my house to Queensbury charger is 221 miles - pretty perfect even in winter. But I have 4 sets of skis up top - on the way up I would have just limped into there. So I will stop at lunch time in clifton park, charge at the tesla charger. The charge this evening was because we have been hanging around 30% from the 3kw per hour at Gore, and I was a little nervouse with the cold soaking.

Skis inside the car, I get about 280 in conserve even in winter. Just being a bit cautious as I do when I have a new vaiable like the skis up top this go round.
