The Future of NYSkiBlog

I'll do it as long as I can ski.
Good.
I'll echo from previous posts. I truly appreciate all the effort you put forth in providing NYSkiblog. With the passing of Warp it made me realize how truly special, and different this place is when compared to others. There's a level of respect that we all have for each other. IMHO, that starts with you.

That's more like it.

And what I meant was I don't want to see it wither on the vine. It's beyond me why you think that's a better outcome. Remember Namath's last season? He should have retired.

A site like this stays vibrant with effort. Look at TGR. It's down and broken so much, I barely visit any more. Alpine Zone has also seen a dramatic decline, since the newest owner doesn't really care. Without constant attention it will wither.

FWIW the forum is harder to support than the rest of the site. There are lots of people who support Wordpress, for a price. The forum is a different matter. The sideways image thing... I created a relationship with a developer in San Francisco, who knows the software well, hopefully he'll address the issue this week. ($50.)

I was looking for ideas. Maybe it's best to keep this kind of thinking private. I put it out there because I really believe in the collective wisdom here.
My 2cents. You are either growing or shrinking. If the passion is gone and there is a market for a site, sell it. If the number is so low that is not worth it corrupt everything so no one can use your work in the future.
I better here about a god damn tractor before you go.

We are basically the same size we've been for several years.

I was offered a small amount ($5000) once to sell the domain. They weren't going to continue the site, just use the home page "domain authority" to post and sell links. It's a short term strategy, that soon leaves the domain devoid of any value. Of all the options discussed this is the least appealing to me.

The passion isn't gone. I just don't know if I could handle running this place if I couldn't ski. What keeps me going is the opportunities I have to adventure, and share it. I love driving deep into rural NY, skiing small family-owned mountains and telling my story. I also love developing relationships with those families.

LOL re the tractor. I've been thinking more about paying for plowing and getting a snow blower. The space between the house and the garage gets loaded with snow from the garage roof and the wind. That roof snow ain't easy to shovel. Then again the tractor could be fun for an old guy who doesn't ski.

Let us know how we can help, Harv. We are here for you if you ever need it.

Rip thank you so much for this, it means something to me. A lot.

I believe I need an apprentice who shares my vision.

Someone who would start by helping me moderate the forum, and eventually learn how to manage the front (everything else that isn't the forum). Somewhat computer savvy, motivated by the content and community, not money. Someone who values fixed grip lifts and personal connections.

I put this out way in advance because I'm looking for a needle in a haystack, not easy to find.

Like I said in the first post, I'm not sure that person exists.
