The Ugh Thread

Well sorta got some better news today from my cardiologist re the 2 aneurysms .

I was told that they would most likely NOT get bigger and that they wouldn't rupture so In Two years 2027 he will run another test and my primary doc had told me he would do Ultrasounds on them every 6 months ....I am relieved to hear that

And my other good news is our son Dr JB called last nite he is coming up from Manhattan tomorrow.

He's driving up halfway tonite after work so will be here tomorrow early for the weekend to help the ole man with some chores to get the hacienda ready for winter ..... Good times 😀

I have now seen everything. Didn't know whether to post here or start a new thread, but here we go.

Skiing today (Christmas) at van Ho. Snow falling all day. Some kids in the biathlon range because biathlon junior nationals this week. Skiing was great; I skied a couple hours. As I go into the lodge, a woman is putting a baby carriage out on the 2d floor deck. I didn't think much of it at the time.

15, 20 minutes later, I'm recovered, changed, and ready to bail. I went to the deck to retrieve my skis. There's a dang infant crying in the carriage. Mind you, the temperature's been dropping all day. 15 degrees and a stiff wind blowing. I thought she had the kid lying in a chair or sofa.

Two women in the lodge. I go in and shout, whose child is that. The mother went out and brought the baby in. WTF she was thinking, I'll never know.

I really wish I was a more confrontational person.

I’ve had this for 30 years. Now, I have to go back to Chamonix.

There isn't a HOLY SHIT thread so I'll put this here...LoL

I had run out of fuel oil (technically kerosene as I have an outside tank), no biggie as my furnace isn't my primary source of heat. Anyway, per SOP I had to bleed the fuel line to get the furnace to fire. I've done this countless times. After bleeding the line 3 times I was sure the furnace would fire. I'm sitting there, listening to the blower and thinking OK it's going to fire. To my surprise all I got was a big, POOF! It sounded as if the furnace blew itself out, and smoke started billowing out of the thing. I mean a bunch of stinky ass unburnt kerosene smoke filled the house. Smoke detectors going off, I'm rushing for my fire extinguisher, along with my phone to call 911. Once I gathered my shit, I realized nothing was on fire, but man-0-man was there still smoke coming out. I monitored the situation making sure there were no flames. Thankfully there weren't. It scared the ba-geezus out of me so I didn't dare try to fire the thing again. I called a buddy of mine who's an HVAC guy. He walked in my front door 20 minutes later and said, "yep, you had a puffer", as he could see and smell the smoke. He walked downstairs with a screwdriver and a flashlight. Hollered upstairs for me to turn the thermostat up as to call for heat. The furnace ignited with no other issues.

So yeah, friggin UGH! ;)

Hahaa been there . Atomized fuel goes up the chimney as well. Basically a fuel air bomb.

If that happens again wait an hour and stick a lit torch in the breech access. The fuel will burn out slowly.

Good to know
My buddy said he turned the flow rate down a bit. He thought is was a bit high. So I'm hopeful it doesn't ever happen again. It's a super old furnace. If/when the time comes to replace it I plan on going with a propane furnace.
